چکیده

This paper describes an algorithm to find an (a-)envy-free Pareto-optimal division in the case of a finite number of homogeneous infinitely divisible goods and linear utility functions. It is used to find an allocation in the classical cake division problem that is almost Pareto-op timat and o-envy-free. 9 1998 The Mathematical Pregraming, Society, Inc. Negotiating efficient envy-free divisions

Division of a resource among multiple agents is a frequent problem in multiagent systems and fair, efficient, and decentralized allocation procedures are highly valued. A division of a resource or good is envy-free when every agent believes that its share is not less than anyone else’s share by its own estimate. As envy-free procedures are not efficient (in the sense of Pareto optimality) we ha...

On the Problem of Fair Division in Saturated Measure Spaces with Vectorized Preferences

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we axiomatize preference relations on σ-algebras to vectorize them in a Banach space and furnish a utility representation in terms of a nonadditive measure satisfying the appropriate requirement of continuity and convexity. Second, we investigate the fair division problems in which each individual has vectorized preferences on a σ-algebra. We show th...

Almost Envy-Freeness with General Valuations

Œe goal of fair division is to distribute resources among competing players in a “fair” way. Envy-freeness is the most extensively studied fairness notion in fair division. Envy-free allocations do not always exist with indivisible goods, motivating the study of relaxed versions of envy-freeness. We study the envy-freeness up to any good (EFX) property, which states that no player prefers the b...

A Note on Thomson's Characterizations of the Uniform Rule

Thomson (Consistent solutions to the problem of fair division when preferences are single-peaked, J. Econ. Theory 63 (1994), 219 245) proved that the uniform rule of the fair division problem, where preferences are single-peaked, is the unique rule which is bilaterally consistent, continuous, Pareto optimal, and envy-free, in a setting of an infinite number of potential agents. We show that the...

Fairness and False-Name Manipulations in Randomized Cake Cutting

Cake cutting has been recognized as a fundamental model in fair division, and several envy-free cake cutting algorithms have been proposed. Recent works from the computer science field proposed novelmechanisms for cake cutting, whose approaches are based on the theory of mechanism design; these mechanisms are strategy-proof, i.e., no agent has any incentive to misrepresent her utility function,...
